Research Professor Position at the Center for Teaching and Learning, KOREA UNIVERSITY

We are seeking candidates to fill a Research Professor position available at the Center for Teaching and Learning of Korea University. The Korea University is a prestigious private university located in the north-central part of Seoul, Republic of Korea. The Center for Teaching and Learning (KUCTL) was established in order to promote and support effective teaching and learning across the University. The center serves as an on-campus hub for the creation and dissemination of innovative educational ideas and practices, faculty support for effective teaching methods, and student support for active learning.

POSITION DETAILS

- Title: Research Professor of Pedagogy and Educational Development, part-time

- Affiliation: Center for Teaching and Learning, Korea University

- The appointment term will be one year, which may be renewed after yearly evaluations.

- The workload is estimated to be 3 days per week, but negotiable.

- Nationality is not limited, but high proficiency in standard academic English is a must.

- The salary is commensurate with professional experience in teaching and learning.

   Support for relocation expenses is not available.

- The position will be open until it is filled by a successful applicant.

Job description

A successful applicant will develop and carry out new and existing programs for faculty development at the university. Since nearly 40% of all instruction is currently delivered in English, he/she must have an awareness and sensitivity to the needs of second-language instructors and students. One of his/her key roles will be providing assistance and training modern teaching methods to faculty members with particular emphasis on enhancing their academic English skills. The applicant should be an effective team worker.

Duties

The following duties will be expected:

a) Teaching and learning

- Design and deliver faculty development programs for faculty members, especially for newly hired who must teach in English. 

- Conduct workshops/courses for academic staff on a wide range of topics including pedagogy and curriculum development.

- Assist faculty members who need helps in teaching their courses effectively.

b) Administration

- Organize and advance EMC (English mediated courses) training programs for effective teaching.

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships across cultures.

- Moderate, chair and/or participate in CTL events (campus-wide or international meetings and conferences).

Qualifications required for the Research Professor position

a) a Ph.D. degree in Education or a related field

b) experience in the field of academic/education development

c) experience in second language issues

d) excellent facilitation/interactive teaching skills and a commitment to EMC (English Mediated Courses)

e) Applicants should have background in at least some of the following areas:

    - Teacher training / teacher education or instructional coaching

    - Learning psychology

    - Curriculum development

    - Testing, assessment, evaluation

    - Educational policy

    - Adult ESL/EFL education

    - English mediated instruction / English mediated courses (EMC)
