
What is Coaching?
A coaching session is an informal consultation, in the form of a one-on-one discussion with a CTL consultant (a CTL research professor). Any topic related to teaching or professional development can be discussed, depending on the client's needs. Typical topics include the following:
Lecture and presentation skills for classroom teaching and/or conference presentations English lecture skills One's teaching methods or style Teaching or presentation materials One's strengths, weaknesses, and ideas for improvement Issues of classroom assessment, such as exams, assignments, and grading.Coaching sessions can be conducted either in English or in Korean, depending on the professor's preferences. Coaching is a requirement for most new faculty members (i.e., for those who come under the PTP requirements), but is open to all other KU professors as well.

- English lecture and presentation skills
- English lecture materials (syllabi, lesson materials, PPTs, Prezis)
- Vocal delivery and pronunciation
- Any other topic of interest
Through a Teaching Styles Inventory (TSI) or MBTI, you can evaluate your lecture style or your interpersonal characteristics relevant to teaching and professional development. The CTL can offer recommendations about teaching methods to fit your personal style.
Effective lecture design, classroom activities, and teaching methods. Possible topics include:
- Syllabus design
- Planning teaching programs
- Conducting various learning activities
- Strategies for motivating students and facilitating classes with student participation
- Any other topic of interest
Developing more effective assignments, exams, and grading methods. Possible topics include:
- Various effective grading and evaluation methods
- Designing exam questions
- Conducting various learning activities
- Strategies for motivating students and facilitating classes with student participation
- Any other topic of interest
